This China Cultural Immersion & Business Ecosystem programme offers a deep dive into China's cultural heritage and rapidly evolving business landscape, set in the heart of Shanghai and nearby Suzhou. Students will experience a unique blend of cultural immersion and practical business insights, connecting ancient traditions with modern entrepreneurial innovations. The programme includes interactive workshops on Chinese culture, a focused session on doing business with China, and visits to leading companies in sectors like e-commerce, EVs, and digital media, along with learning experiences at prestigious educational institutions.

Shanghai and Suzhou, two powerhouse cities in the Yangtze River Delta, complement each other and drive China's economic growth. Shanghai, a global financial hub, stands out for its international trade, financial services, and innovation. Meanwhile, Suzhou, known for its advanced manufacturing and high-tech industries, is a key player in industrial production and technological development.

Taihu Great Learning Center (Suzhou)Founded by Nan Huai-Chin, this 200-acre center blends traditional Chinese educational philosophies with modern learning. It integrates practices such as meditation, ethics, traditional Chinese medicine, and philosophy. This visit will offer students a unique look at how ancient Chinese cultural frameworks like Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism are applied to personal and professional development.

Xing Wei CollegeA progressive liberal arts institution, Xing Wei College fosters independent thinking and critical inquiry. Students will learn about its innovative teaching methods, which integrate Chinese and Western philosophies, and how they contribute to developing socially responsible future leaders. This educational experience provides a fresh perspective on the intersections between global education models and traditional Chinese values.
How do we design the Expedition?
The Shanghai programme offers a variety of workshops and masterclasses focused on entrepreneurship and innovation in the Chinese context. These sessions are designed to inspire and empower students, covering topics such as technological innovation, social impact, sustainability, and collaborative leadership in the rapidly evolving Chinese market.
Workshops & Classes
- Traditional Chinese Culture Immersion:
Explore key elements of Chinese culture through activities such as Kung Fu, meditation, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the art of war. These workshops connect ancient Chinese wisdom to modern entrepreneurship and personal development. - How to Do Business with China Workshop:
This workshop provides essential insights into establishing successful business relationships in China. Topics include understanding Chinese business etiquette, navigating government regulations, negotiating styles, and the importance of guanxi (networking) and mianzi (reputation) in Chinese business culture. Students will also learn practical strategies for building partnerships and understanding the Chinese consumer market. This session equips participants with foundational knowledge to help them succeed in China’s unique business environment.

Travelling U’s Study Tours participants are students seeking to connect their academic learning with practical international experiences. They are curious, open-minded, and focused on developing leadership, innovation, and collaboration skills to thrive in a global environment.
Cultural Activities
Shanghai offers a truly immersive cultural experience, allowing students to explore the city’s unique blend of innovation and tradition.
Some of the visits can be the following one:
- The BundExperience Shanghai’s historical waterfront, where colonial-era architecture meets the futuristic skyline. The Bund represents Shanghai’s blend of East and West, old and new, making it an essential cultural and historical landmark.
- Lujiazui Financial DistrictKnown for its iconic skyscrapers, Lujiazui is the heart of Shanghai’s economic growth. Students will witness firsthand the impact of globalization and urban development in this ultra-modern financial district.
- SuzhouFamous for its serene canals and classical gardens, Suzhou offers a contrast to Shanghai’s urban energy. This visit provides students with a peaceful cultural immersion, exploring China’s traditional aesthetic values and ancient history, including a visit to Taihu Great Learning Center.
- M50 Art DistrictDiscover Shanghai’s contemporary art scene in the M50 district, where industrial spaces have been transformed into vibrant art galleries. This district showcases the intersection of traditional and modern creative expression in China.
